Recognition and Awards

We're aware that students at Greenwich do loads of fantastic things outside their course, volunteering both with the Students' Union and a massive range of external organisations in the community, and we want to give you a chance to get recognition for the amazing things you undertake. To outline your outstanding commitment to volunteering, the GSCV will hopefully give you genuine recognition, and help you land your dream job after you graduate by making you stand out from the rest!

The GSCV has 4 levels, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Plus, and is earned through logging your hours and skills via the Toolkit, and completing reflective reviews about your volunteering.

The reflective reviews are verbal (Silver Award) and written (Gold and Gold Plus Awards), and are designed to help you relate your volunteering experience to interview and job application situations.

We also appreciate the value of community volunteering, to both volunteers and the organisations themselves. This is why we have added the new Gold Plus award, which requires 40 hours of community hours before it is completed.

The GSCV has 4 levels, each of which you can only reach once you have completed the level before. You can work on completing the certificates over all of the time you spend at Greenwich, and the criteria below are just minimum amounts - we encourage you to log as many skills and hours as you want for your personal skills record!

GSVC Bronze

  • 25 hours of volunteering logged,
  • record at least 1 employability skill,

GSCV Silver

  • 50 hours of volunteering logged,
  • record at least 6 employability skills,
  • record attendance at 1 training session,
  • have a brief volunteering review meeting with a member of GSU staff

GSCV Gold

  • 100 hours of volunteering logged,
  • record at least 10 employability skills,
  • record attendance at 2 training sessions,
  • complete a written reflection of your volunteering experience

GSCV Gold+

  • 200 hours of volunteering logged (40 hours must be from community volunteering).
  • Record at least 12 employability skills.
  • Record attendance at 3 training sessions.

All GSCV award recipients will be celebrated at the annual GSU awards, will recieve certificates of their award and will be recognised on their Higher Education Achievement Record.

If you have any questions, for example if what you are doing counts as eligible volunteering or which employability skills your volunteering covers, then you can check out the FAQ page or email suvolunteers@gre.ac.uk.

Make sure you get logging your hours, and then watch out for the email which will confirm your new GSCV award!
