Competing as an Individual

The Students' Union affiliates to 2 competition providers, and can enter individual students into the individual competitions they offer.

We affiliate to British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Southern England Student Sports Association (SESSA), who between them offer regional and national competitions for students to enter.

Specific entry requirements will vary depending on the sport, and what competitions are on offer will depend on the demand (nationally or regionally) - the best way to find out what is on offer is to visit the BUCS and SESSA websites:

If you find a competition you are interested in on one of those sites, the next steps to taking part are:
  • Email activities@gre.ac.uk with a completed Activities Representation Fund application, making sure that your email and application include at the minimum: your name, student number, details of the competition that you wish to enter including competition name, date(s), any further entry information required such as level/style of competition or licence numbers;
  • Forms and information for the Activities Representation Fund can be found by clicking here. This enables us to cover the costs of the entry, and you can also include on your application for help with costs associated with the entry (e.g. transport, accomodation);
  • If you are entering a BUCS competition you will also need to register with BUCS and activate your account with them - details can be found by clicking here.

Please contact us at least 5 working days (weekdays) in advance of the competition closing deadline, to give staff a chance to process and validate entries. If possible, send your email as close to the open of the entries as possible to allow maximum time for validation.
