Tihar, also known as Deepawali, is a vibrant five-day Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal. It's a festival of lights, colours, and honouring relationships. Each day has a special significance, worshipping animals like crows, dogs, and cows, celebrating self-love on Laxmi Puja, and strengthening sibling bonds on Bhai Tika. Homes are decorated with oil lamps and rangoli (colourful patterns), and the air fills with music and joy as people sing Deusi-Bhailo and share sweets. Tihar beautifully blends devotion, nature, and family.
We recently organised a vibrant multicultural fashion show at our university, celebrating the rich diversity of cultures among students. As part of the event, we proudly showcased Nepali culture through traditional attire like the gunyo cholo, daura suruwal, and ethnic jewellery. Our segment highlighted Nepal’s cultural heritage, unique fabrics, and the beauty of its traditional wear, leaving the audience inspired and intrigued. It was a wonderful opportunity to promote inclusivity and share a piece of our identity with the wider university community.
