What has your experience been like as a society member?

University life without being part of a society/club is like going for dinner and not enjoying a dessert. The experience I gained as well as the friends I have made has been incredible.

Lastly, I will add that if you are starting a new society or continuing one, it may be difficult to startup but, don’t give up. When I started the Entrepreneurs society in 2016, it was difficult to get student engagement at our events, yet we continued and helped many student through their studies and was ‘Highly Commended’ for the most inclusive society.

What was your proudest moment?

The proudest moment was to have several students come to me privately after events and tell me how much it has helped them in their life.

Another great moment was hosting an event with 40+ students from across London universities attending.

Would you recommend new students to join your society? 

To any student studying at university, especially freshers, I would highly recommend joining a society or sports club. In my first year I was hesitant and shy to join a society, but I decided to just go for it, and found myself enjoying it so much that I started a new society the next year.

You will meet students from other courses, learn new skills, and grow as a person. You will likely have the happiest memories to look back on from your society/club.

How often do you meet as a group throughout the year?

We meet normally once every 2/3 weeks depending on the time of year. There are speaker events, workshops and socials. This is normally based around the Greenwich campus.
