Tell us about your campaign for Ukraine
|
To begin with, I am Ukrainian myself. As you can imagine, it is devastating and heart-breaking to see everything that is currently happening in my home country – destroyed cities which I have visited myself, people fleeing their ruined homes, women giving birth in bomb shelters full of people, including children. Bucha, Mariupol, Kharkiv, Chernihiv – I am sure you have already heard about those Ukrainian cities and about what Russians have done to thousands of innocent civilians. How cruel… Indescribable…
Therefore, I did not want to support those in need only with my words. I wanted to act! Creating a campaign with GSU was my idea and I saw it as the most effective solution to provide humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian refugees. Luckily, some students have decided to help me, and I am so grateful for their support!
I am also extremely appreciative that the GSU team have decided to put this idea forward. Thanks to them, we were able to set up an awareness stall and collect donations in the form of card/cash payments and clothes donations via Red Cross. We were fortunate enough to have a lot of volunteers joining us and devoting their time to do something great for society and to help people who are struggling.
As a result of our teamwork and commitment, we have collected around £2000 and around 50 bags of donations, it was enough to fill two cars. I am so proud that our University and the GSU is involved with helping Ukraine in this unfortunate and unprecedented situation.
Slava Ukraini!

What does being part of a Global Greenwich mean to you? |
Thanks to Global Greenwich, I was able to spread awareness about the war in Ukraine. Not only that, Global Greenwich and the GSU showed empathy and helped me collect actual financial and materialistic support to those who need it the most in these dark times.
Also, I am grateful that the team embraced this idea and inspired me to do even more. Therefore, I can proudly say that Global Greenwich means a lot to me.

Are you a part of any Societies? |
I am delighted to say that I was a part of the Czech & Slovak Society that I have co-founded with my Czech friends.
Our aim was to connect students mainly from the Czech Republic and Slovakia and provide them with a home atmosphere at the University.
We also welcomed many international students to educate them about Czechia and Slovakia. As a result, our Society have gained around 40 members, hosted seven fun and informative events, and invited three guest speakers to talk about their professional experience.
Sadly, I cannot continue being a part of any Societies for the upcoming academic year because I have recently accepted a placement year job offer from the University.
