Membership of the Students' Union University of Greenwich

So, you're a member of the Students' Union...what exactly does that mean?

Every student of the University of Greenwich automatically becomes a member of Greenwich Students' Union (GSU) once they’ve completed their University registration.

You can find more information about membership within our Memorandum of Association.

Your membership is valid for one academic year, and renewed automatically every time you complete registration.

So, what do you get as a member of the Students’ Union?

  • Opportunity to take part in all of our student activities, including joining our Sports clubs and Societies and taking part in schemes such as GSUmove and recognition of volunteering.
  • Members access to all of our bars and retail outlets and the opportunity to sign in guests.
  • Access to the Students’ Union Advice Service which offers free confidential, independent and impartial advice.
  • Campaigning and representation on important issues to the University of Greenwich student body, and the chance have your say in what we campaign about.
  • Members based at the any of the three principal campuses are also able to take part in all of the Union’s democratic processes including standing and voting in our annual officer elections, proposing motions and attending the Annual Members Meeting.
  • All features available on the GSU website including regular updates on news and events.

If you do not wish to be a member of the Students’ Union and thereby have no access to all of the above, then you can opt out by giving written notice to the University Secretary of the University of Greenwich. We will be notified that you wish to opt out of membership, and your name will be removed from our records.

GSU is a company limited by guarantee. If, and only if, GSU is wound up while you are a member or within a year of you completing studies at the university, you would be required to pay £1. No UK Students’ Union set up as a company limited by guarantee has ever been wound up and it is highly unlikely to happen to GSU.
