The Woolwich Polytechnic Union of Clubs and Societies was founded

1950

Woolwich Polytechnic celebrates its Diamond Jubilee (60 years old); celebrations include a ball and displays and tournaments from some of the Union's Clubs and Societies

1953

Chanticleer Mascot "filched" - i.e. stolen - by Goldsmiths College. He was returned after several months

1970

Becomes Thames Polytechnic Union when the university's name changes from Woolwich Polytechnic after merging with Hammersmith College of Art and Building

1982

Thames Polytechnic Students' Union moves into what is now the Bathway Theatre

 

Decorative

1992

Thames Polytechnic was awarded University status - becomes the University of Greenwich in 1993, so the Union name changes - again - to Greenwich Students' Union

1993

Greenwich Students' Union becomes Students' Union, University of Greenwich

2000

We get a new home in Greenwich in The Cooper Building (now the Cooper Powerhouse)

2012

Union building is one of the hosts for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for the 2012 London Olympics - one staff member was even part of the Closing Ceremony!*

2018

We move into our new home in the Dreadnought building

2021

GSU becomes the lead partner in Medway, running The Hub
