Grow your Own

Grow at Home is your chance to grow your own produce in your student flat or house - it's simple, easy, and anyone can do it!

During Freshers' we'll be distributing a windowsill growing kit, with instructions for how to care for your herbs, salad leaves and other seeds. You can then keep in touch with us throughout the year to pick up recipe ideas, compare how you're doing with other students, and find out more about growing your own food!

Edible Garden

In April 2012, the University Sustainability Team set up a community garden at the Avery Hill site, starting with creating some raised beds and growing well to now include a polytunnel growing area and fruit and nut trees in a forest garden area.

Supported by the NUS Student Eats project, the Edible Garden is always looking for students to get involved and give their green fingers a try - we're there every Wednesday 12-2pm for the supervised session, where you can meet the students and staff already involved, get advice and help for growing your own food, and enjoy harvesting the variety of produce grown!

To help develop the garden and make healthy, locally grown produce available to more students we'll also be building up links between the Edible Garden and the SUUG Village Shop at Avery Hill. You'll be able to purchase seasonal fruit, veg and other produce whenever it's available through the Village Shop, with all profits going back to the Edible Garden to keep it growing and developing.
