Women's Rights are Human Rights For All

Hello Everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful day!

My name is Sophie and I am a first-year psychology student at the university. I am also a proud feminist and bisexual woman. I am running for Women's Liberation Chair as I hope to strive and educate people at the university. In my younger years at secondary school, I have. Since coming to university and joining the feminist society and the LGBTQ+ society, I have been able to join communities where I can express who I am and now I want to give back to the university. I have always striven to educate and teach those around me about feminism and the ongoing issues in the world surrounding women's and LGBTQ+ issues. Feminism also means to me that feminism includes all women, for example, trans women and BIPOC women. Through my psychology degree and previous positions as prefect for two subjects and head girl at my secondary school, I have developed my skills through teamwork and organisation, through leading and working with younger years in my school to make my school a better place and ensure events would go smoothly. I have further used my skills to encourage students in the younger years to talk about the opinions and use their voice inside and outside the classroom. I would use these skills to ensure that I can further help, along with the other chairs, to provide education on different issues to the wider population. If elected, I would strive to provide a safe space and accessibility for all university students to make them feel welcome and happy on campus. As a bisexual woman, I believe I can provide an insight into issues and tackle and sexism and LGBTQ issues.

If I am elected, I hope to help tackle issues on camps affecting women. One issue I would like to help tackle is female representation in the curriculum and helping to change that to reflect female pioneers and movements in their own respective fields. Another issue I would want to help tackle is sexual harassment and period poverty around campus so female students are able to feel safe and have the ability to attend classes freely.

I hope you have an amazing day!
