My name is Martina and I am a third year sociology student. As I started university before the COVID-19 pandemic, I know what students have been missing out on in the past two years. Through the GSU, I believe we can make change.
WHAT DO I WANT TO CHANGE?
Advocate for the continuation of both online and face-to-face meetings/lectures to include individuals who cannot attend one or the other and consider implementing regular one-to-one staff-student meetings to support students’ learning
Raise awareness about the different societies available and provide more information for students who wish to create a new society
Improve the academic skills workshops so that they include the needs of more international students, increase international students’ knowledge about financial support and increase the registration staff’s awareness of international legal documents
Share educational material about non-conforming gender identities
Decrease waiting times and ensure that support is available for students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic
Continue weekly Eco-team meetings and work with the sustainability team to make the university more sustainable
WHY AM I THE RIGHT PERSON?
As a sociology student, I have learned about social issues and wish to implement this knowledge into the running of our university. In addition, I am currently advocating for more sustainable practices within the university through my role as a Green Ambassador. I also have experience working with a wide range of individuals from my previous role as a Student Ambassador.
